About Which is better, St. Petersburg, FL or Seattle, WA

Which is better, St. Petersburg, FL or Seattle, WA?
So I am currently live in Seattle. Thinking about moving to St Pete area. Of course there is no right answer but I am curious about people's opinions on the matter. Need help figuring out the pros and cons of each place. It's a big, scary move. My mom is there. I am here. I have a biology degree but can't find work here, so I am torn on the subject.

About What are some good neighborhoods in the St. Pete area

What are some good neighborhoods in the St. Pete area?
I'm moving to the St. Petersburg, FL area in January and am looking for a decent apt in the area. I'll be working on my PhD at USF St Pete and would like to live within 20 minutes or so from there. I'm not looking to spend a ton. Any suggestions on good neighborhoods/towns/etc? Thanks!

I live in Dunedin. about 45 min to USF Look into Clearwater, Largo Not to much in St. Pete to busy for me

You can find a decent place in Madeira Beach or Treasure Island, both nice towns on the gulf. Gulfport is nice too. In St. Pete, try Pinellas Point, Old Northeast, or Kendall Park

The SEPSI academy can be taken either sponsored by an agency or on your own. If sponsored by an agency, they will pay for the academy and possibly pay you to go. If you are not sponsored, the payment responsibility falls on your shoulders. The SEPSI academy is not a live-in academy, although you will spend a good amount of time on site

I am lookin for a medical asst. position in st petersburg,fl hours of mon.-fri. hours from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m?
I have been lookin for a position in St. Petersburg,FL as a medical asst. but so far I haven't had any luck with the right hours. I have two daughters and I don't have any family in the area since I am originally from N.J. I am looking for hours of & am to 5:30 pm with benifits. I have 3 years experience in the position. I have worked in Internal Medicine and some OB GYN. I am very comfortable with lab work. I know both front and back office. I hope someone can help me. Thanks for all your help. Bianca

I am also a "transplant" from up North. Your best bet is to talk to people in your field. Florida is a "right to work" state. It's very different from up north. You may very well have adjust your schedule a little to get in your field. You will NOT get the money you are used to. Join a local "group" or Church and TALK to people. Most people here get work from "who you know

Anyone from Tampa-St. Petersburg-Clearwater area?
I am looking for a nice place to live in the Tampa-St. Petersburg-Clearwater area. I will be moving with my fiance in May to work at a position in Oldsmar, which is located on the north side of Tampa Bay. We are interested in finding an apartment in the range of $700-$1000. So far we have found communities like Westchase, and East Lake. Are there any other suggestions?

Tampa Bay/St. Petersburg Poll......Is It a city of "The Rich vs The Poor"?
I'm polling those in Tampa/ St. Pete to see if working there is worth It........ What are the typical jobs? If one puts in the effort can he/she keep up with the cost of living there? Or is Tampa a city of "The Rich vs The Poor" like in Miami. I'm a recent college grad thinking of relocating there. Many thanks for any insight you can provide!

The cost of housing in Tampa has risen dramatically for the past few years, but it is still a reasonably affordable place. There are many rentals available in an affordable price range for a young professional. if you wish to purchase a home, there are still many condos and condo-conversions available in a low price range. I grew up in Tampa and lived there for two years after my undergraduate degree. I purchased a one bedroom condo that was very affordable and was not a burden on my budget at all. Further, Tampa has become very popular with young professionals and has an active social scene. The beaches are unbeatable. It is a really nice place to live.

Tampa & St. Pete have many service oriented business because of the tourist industry. We moved from Chicago to Tampa in January. I took my job with me & my husband found employment immediately at a bank in downtown Tampa. Cost of living? Well we pay more for a smaller place here,no tax on groceries, but prices are higher, wages far lower for same positions & the water actually STINKS! On the plus side, it's like your on vacation every weekend. Great weather,beautiful beaches....I can handle it!

i just bought a phone card in 7-11 and called my friends in st.petersburg russia by calling them by the number 011-904(phone number) and it worked but when i used it on the phone card it doesn't work then I tried 011-812-904(phone number) and it didn't work please tell me how to call a cell phone by using a phone card

About does a metal detector on the beach work

does a metal detector on the beach work?
Well I can't find a job i've been applying both online and in person for over 2 months and i need to help my dad pay for the apartment, I have about 200.00 extra to spend that i have saved from my last job. I have been told to invest in a good metal detector and hit up the beaches does it work? I live in the Florida in the St. Petersburg area. Please help.

i'm not sure but i know that u need some kind of permit in order to use it on a public beach. my dad was gonna get one but he got a watch instead...u don't need a permit to use a watch...

Yes, but they take practice and I never got the hang of it. Look in the classified ads for a used one and have them show you how to use it. Also, you could go fishing and at least get a meal out of the deal. If you do go for a metal detector, try it right after a storm in the early morning at the beach because stuff gets washed ashore then, and try around lakes with designated swimming areas because people lose rings there, and around and under benches in sandy areas or with lots of wood chips (like at playgrounds) because people lose change there. Also, a metal detector doesn't work on this, but shark teeth are worth something - look on eBay and you'll see what I mean. Florida is a great place to find stuff. Check out treasure hunting websites online and you'll probably find a club near you. Hope you have more luck than I did! Maybe I wasn't patient enough

About Please help me pick mechanic in Tampa

Please help me pick mechanic in Tampa?
I need a cheap, trustworthy mechanic in Tampa FL who won't rip me off. My van broke down on the side of the 275 during my commute home. My daughter couldn't find my checkbook so I could not get a tow. I'm home now...still can't find my checkbook. The cab ride home was $50! I don't make a lot of money. Not only have I (maybe) lost my vehicle, but I'm probably going to lose my job if I can't report back in by Monday. I can't figure out how to commute there, I'm in St. Petersburg FL and the job is in Temple Terrace FL. If the mechanic also has a car dealership and is trustworthy i'd be willing to work something out for another vehicle. I've got roughly $200.00 and nothing else and I make $500.00 a week. I'm an expert in Microsoft Office so alternatively looking for immediate work in St. Petersburg, where I can just ride the bus! ;p I'm just completely strewn out because I have no clue how I am going to take care of myself and family. Advice/help appreciated. I have basically no support system/family friends/peers. It's me, my full ttime college wife and four children on $500 a week. I've got a $400.00 check that I guess they'll have to mail to me. Thanks, Brandon C

I will start my police academy en Hillsborough Comm. College next March to work with St. Petersburg Florida PD. I’m currently working for the Puerto Rico PD. I was 80 pounds overweight, and i have lost 47 already. I’m working out hard to get in shape but since the academy is in a community college I want to know FOR SURE if they give you PT at the academy and if they do what exercises do they give you. I want to know how to prepare myself for training. I will start my police academy en Hillsborough Comm. College next March to work with St. Petersburg Florida PD. I’m currently working for the Puerto Rico PD. I was 80 pounds overweight, and i have lost 47 already. You will get PT at the academy. We ran 2 miles a day, weight training, sit ups and push ups. It was like high school book work and PE class.

Well, I can't speak for Florida. States and even individual academies run the gambit in terms of fitness and PT programs. Some requiring none at all, others are on the level of military PT. Generally, the big three are push-ups, situps and running. Pull ups seem to be a distant forth. Other activities might include mountain climbers, jumping jacks and other calisthenics. Most police academies have three main things they test on, pushups, situps and running as I said before. Everything else is down simply to build muscle or burn calories. I would recommend working the three I mentioned and focusing less on the others. Jog a couple miles every day and do some pushups and situps whenever possible and you should be in good shape. My daily work out is 4-5 sets of pushups or situps. 30 minutes of cardio and 20 minutes of free weights and I manage to stay in good shape

I attended the Prince George's County Police Academy in 2003. The first three weeks the instuctors are going to do bootcamp style PT. It's designed to break you down so they can build you back up. I think your problem might be running, because some of the heavey sat guys in my class had the same problem. If I were you I'd ho to a track, and get your body ready for that. Also work on your crunches, jumpin jack, sit up, and the front lean and rest position (push-up position) I went into the academy in top shape, and it was a struggle for me on "day one" because it so intense. But just believe in yourself, and don't quite and the instructors will respect you Good LucK

How can i make a living in St. Petersburg Russia?
I really have no degrees and slight education, but am willing to work. And live in below average conditions. My question is, what will i be able to do? Can i find a job that can at least get me enough to live on? And can i maybe get a job that i can build up on?? Also, maybe not St.Petersburg Russia. I am willing to live in another part of Russia.

Chances are, no. First it would be nearly impossible to emigrate there as an out of work laborer. There is no shortage of them in Russia and they all speak the language which you don't. While Russia is a great country with great people, it is not the place to try your luck without a profession that is in demand. Seriously, try Germany.

The only thing I can tell you is as soon as russians will understand that you speak english, but truly speak english rather than pretend you actually are, all doors suddenly will open to you. Serious! Russians really treat english-speakers SO good....that was the most marvelous thing when I visited russia last time.. there are many foreign companies in russia, thus there will be no problems with job placement

Below average housing conditions are still very expensive. Really, your only chance is teaching English, but you will need to obtain a CELTA or TEFL certificate before applying for jobs. Vacancies on expat.ru.

If I live in Atlanta, Georgia but work overseas, do I still have to pay state taxes?
I am about to move to Georgia but the company that I work for is based out of St. Petersburg, Florida and the work is done overseas. Do I have to pay state taxes in Georgia or Florida? Is it based on my residence or where I work?

Since you will be setting up a residence in GA, you are a GA resident and must pay GA state income taxes on your world-wide income. FL has no state income tax, so if setting up residence in FL is an option that would make more sense from an income tax perspective. There may be other reasons that GA is a better option such as lower sales and property taxes or non-tax reasons known only to you.

your tax home is where you work, however if you have a Georgia address, have a license there, do banking there, Ga will determine you are a citizen and will want you to report your income to them

About Where should I live in the St. Petersburg area

Where should I live in the St. Petersburg area?
I will be transferring jobs to St. Petersburg, FL next summer. I will be working on 4th Street N. How far is too far to drive? If my price limit is $250k, where can my money buy the nicest home? I don't want too far of a drive, 30 minutes or less would be great.

Right now is an excellent time to buy a house here. I'd look for places in Old Northeast, or in the area between 4th Street and 34th Street, anywhere from about 16th Avenue North to 62nd Avenue North. The Crescent Lake area is beautiful, some lovely homes in a nice neighborhood, and it's not far at all from 4th. (As a bonus, there's a fantastic lake and park right there. Steer clear of parts of the city south of Central Avenue, the area from Central to about 35th Avenue South, from 4th Street all the way to about 45th Street, is a higher crime area, so even though a house on 15th Avenue and 12th Street might look like a great bargain, it's not. i want to work there but i dont know if i have to study there for college im from california and i plan to go to a university here but i dont know if im required to study in russia order to work there.
